Since our move, we’ve received a Coastal Range-sized mountain of questions regarding the new location with respect to the previous establishment. Those questions typically fall into the following categories:
- Are you located at The Troller?
- Did you buy The Troller?
- Do you own The Troller?
- Did you remodel The Troller?
- Do you still have The Troller’s carpet?
Let’s go in order:
1 – Are you located at The Troller?
Yes. We are now located at the building that once housed the historic The Troller Restaurant & Lounge.
307 Mooring Basin Dr. Garibaldi, OR 97118For those that don’t know, it’s in the heart of the Port of Garibaldi. We’re now across the street to the west of the docks, and directly across the street from the Port of Garibaldi office.
2 – Did you buy The Troller?
We purchased the building, not the business. We now own the building located at 307 Mooring Basin Dr. For generations, the location served as the home of The Troller.
From what we know, the day the building purchase was finalized was also The Troller’s final business day.
3 – Do you own The Troller?
As stated, we did not purchase the business, so, “no,” we do not “own The Troller.” That said, if you look closely, you’ll find many little tributes to the historic restaurant in our building. We also maintain a great relationship with previous owners, celebrating them every time they walk through the doors.
4 – Did you remodel The Troller?
Yes. That’s a story in and of itself.
The Short Version:
The original plan was to do a 3-month patch & go for the 2019 season, then a 3-month interior remodel for the 2020 season.
The more we patched, the more we discovered that 40 years of Oregon Coast rain took more of a toll on that beautiful building than we anticipated. We took several deep breaths and reassessed our situation. After a few peaceful exhales, we realized that since our original location was still humming, our best bet would be to go ahead and do the Phase 1 renovation immediately and move over to The Troller location once the phase was completed. That way, if nothing else, we still had a successful business running while we worked. The plan put more pressure on our team but kept us all with a location we knew would perform for us.
That new 6-month Phase 1 plan, as with all timed plans, took about twice as long as anticipated. It’s the night before Thanksgiving 2019 as we write this, and we can safely say we’re still recovering from the process, but as we reflect upon that year, we wouldn’t have had it any other way.
The Long Version: It’s still being written.
There are volumes of stories to be told from those adventures, and a football roster of people, each deserving their own page on this website as an honor to the blood, sweat, and tears sacrificed to make this new location a reality. One completed, we will post them.
5 – Do you still have the Troller’s carpet?
No.
Thank you all for sticking with us along this crazy ride.
We’re here now, with a new bar, a new kitchen, new two-way fireplace, new Oregon Lottery Machines – we’ve never had those before. All sorts of new tools, toys, and equipment to better serve you, because of you.
